About

Marionette Studios is…

Well to start with let me explain who I am. My name is Dan and I would love to share my dreams with you. For as long as I can honestly remember I have been using my imagination to try and create the most incredible experiences I could. Throughout this time I have always wanted to share these ideas with others, at the age of 12 I decided to become a film maker. I soon realised that without a video camera this was going to be difficult. I did however have some basic animation software, so animated movies it was. Over the following ten years I created several animated shorts which finally allowed me to start getting my ideas across to others. The last animated film I made was about a marionette. You see, this is going somewhere.

During this time, however, I’ve had another hobby. Video games. I found that games were also a great way to flex my imagination. I have lost many rounds of Street Fighter 2 trying to make the fight look good and broken countless wings off my Arwing in an attempt to perform a “barrel roll boost” around a building in time with the music. The truth is for years what happened in these games always looked better in my head than it ever did in reality. However we are now getting to a stage where games have the potential to become what I always dreamed they were. In recent years I have shifted my focus from film making to game development in the continuing effort to share my ideas.

So if it’s just me, why use the word studios in the name? Well it actually helps me sum up my ultimate goal for my career in just one word. If I used my personal name for my work then I feel it would all start and end with just myself. I want to make the best games I can and I still hope to continue my interest in film and animation too. But to do this I am going to need help bringing my ideas to life and I hope I will get the opportunity to work with others and help them get their ideas out too. As I said at the start, this is not just about games or films, but about creating and sharing the best experiences I possibly can. And while I expect that not everyone will share the same passions that I have, for the ones that do I proudly present to you Marionette Studios.
